Teacher and Practitioner Bios

Sarah Willis has been practicing Vinyasa Yoga (in this lifetime) since 1997; and Vipassana Meditation in the tradition of SN Goenka since 1999. She was certified as a Jiv@mukti Teacher in 2000, and gives thanks to Sharon Gannon and David Life for igniting the Yoga flame under her asana. She has been practicing Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga since 2000, and has studied directly with Sri K Pattabhi Jois and Sharath Rangaswamy in Mysore, South India; with Eddie Stern and Christopher Hildebrandt in NYC; and is certified to teach Ashtanga Yoga by Richard Freeman in Boulder, Colorado, having completed both his Level I and Advanced teacher training programs. Sarah bows to Richard for his integrity, eloquence, grace and luminosity of spirit, which continue to inform and inspire her inquiry into Ashtanga Yoga and Vipassana meditation. Sarah bows to the lotus feet of Manorama and Sri Brahmananda Saraswati for their tireless work in bringing down the light which illuminates the consciousness for all of humanity; and for continually chasing after her with a stick to keep on studying Sanskrit, and to always remember the names and boundless love of The Divine. She grew up in Manhattan, and has a Bachelor's Degree from Northwestern University's School of Communication.
Sarah appears in the instructional home-video series Yoga Systems, and has been featured locally and internationally in newspaper and magazine articles on the subject of Yoga. She leads workshops on Yoga for 5th Chakra & Thyroid rejuvination; Inversions and Advanced Vinyasa Practice; and Ashtanga Yoga. Her classes include basic instruction in meditation, and traditional Sanskrit chanting, and are known for being challenging and very mindful of alignment and principles of energetic anatomy. Sarah loves Ganesh. May we all make use of His help to bust through every last obstacle, and let go of crusty old paradigms that can limit and dull our perception. OM SRI GANESHAYA NAMAHAH!  ONE LOVE.
